Rocket League is a racing game with soccer elements(!) developed by American company Psyonix. Initially, it has been released for PC and PlayStation 4, but now you can download Rocket League for Xbox One, macOS, Nintendo Switch and even Linux. Developers describe their game as "soccer, but with rocket-powered cars", and probably it defines the best that this game can offer. But let’s be consistent and look at all the game aspects separately.
Graphics – 4.5/5
Rocket League was built on Unreal Engine 3 with the PhysX engine elements. The game itself looks cute, with its animated graphics and bright models. And if we were writing the Rocket League review when it was just released, the rate would be 5/5. But nowadays, there are lots of project (some even free-distributed) which can offer better graphics. Psyonix makes all the efforts in order to improve their game, baking new updates quite often, but in the case of such a project, they just can’t afford themselves an AAA level of graphics.
Gameplay – 5/5
The strongest feature of Rocket League is definitely hidden in its gameplay process. It combines rules of soccer with demolition racing in order to bring us a fresh and unique experience. As a player, you gain a place behind the wheel of a superfast rocket-engined car. There are two teams each up to a maximum of 4 players. The ultimate goal of each matchup is to score as many goals as it is possible. The ball is gigantic, much bigger than the players’ vehicles. As a result, the goal scoring process is fun, unpredictable and quite tough for the newcomers.
You can choose between offline matches and online battles with real opponents. The arena is covered with boosts, which can temporarily raise your speed or give you other useful advantages. The architecture of the field itself is done in such a way that you get to act in the air very often. The ball can be struck in mid-air, and all the cars have the ability to jump, so Rocket League gameplay is all about the non-stop rapid stunt action.
Controls – 5/5
Rocket League is a cross-platform game which means that PC and console users can contest with each other in the same matchups. This also means that the in-game controls were initially developed to suit both gamepad and keyboard. As a result, PC users don’t have to bother buying a gamepad. As a player, you can control your car (gas, brake, handbrake, wheel, etc.) and also use the jump button if you want to move up.
Replay Value – 5/5
Another strong feature of Rocket League is its replay value. First of all, each competitive online game can offer you a lot of gameplay hours because each online match will differ from another, despite the fact that the game modes could be similar. Secondly, Rocket League is updated regularly and developers implement new modes and rules very often. So you won’t have a chance to get tired of Rocket League gameplay because it changes constantly.
Rocket League is a fascinating game the main purpose of which is to bring you joy and fun no matter how good your skills are. Rocket League download is available in the catalog, so you can try this mad sport yourself. Just don’t forget to wear your helmet!
Rocket League is a great tool if you want to kill time with joy. Every matchup would bring you something fresh and unpredicted.
