Artifact is an online digital collectible card game developed by Valve Corporation. It’s based upon the universe of another popular Valve project, Dota 2. It has been well met by critics, despite the fact that it had a lot of in-game issues at the beginning. You can download Artifact for PC, macOS, Linux, and on Android/iOS gadgets as well. Now let’s have a short view of the main game features that Artifact can offer its users.
Graphics – 4.5/5
Let’s be frank: graphics is never the strongest point of digital card games because it is not really needed. In the case of such projects, you have to create a friendly interface with a pretty background. And that is exactly what has been done with Artifact. All in-game models are based on actual Dota 2 characters, which were a bit redesigned to fit the cards. Pudge, Ursa, and other popular Dota heroes are on the list.
Gameplay – 5/5
From the weakest to the strongest feature the Artifact gameplay is the main reason why everyone loves this game. Valve developers made an interesting mix, implementing some Dota rules in the card game. The board is divided into 3 areas, called “lanes” in most MOBA games. Each lane is a separate board, where you can place your champions. The ultimate goal is to destroy a structure called the "Ancient" or to destroy both enemy’s towers.
As a player, you have to collect cards between battles. Your deck can contain up to 40 cards, with the help of which you can cast buffs and give items to your heroes. After you and your opponent make moves, the round begins with mobs and characters battling on each lane. You gain gold after each round is over, which can be spent to upgrade your heroes or to buy necessary items. Just like Dota 2, Artifact focuses on online clashes, despite the fact that the in-game tutorial mission is played vs AI.
Controls – 5/5
Artifact game controls are quite simple and intuitive. It is played mostly with the mouse, which is used to drag cards, shop items, etc. Because each match is split in turns, you would have a lot of time to choose your strategy and preferable cards to play. There is not a lot to add on this topic. It’s worth mention that Dota 2 players would be especially pleased with controls because there is a lot of similarities between Artifact and the legendary MOBA game.
Replay Value – 5/5
Like every qualitative online game, Artifact has a huge potential for replay. There are more than 400 unique cards, which can be used in different builds for more sophisticated tactics. The better part of early Artifact reviews pointed out the fact that you can’t collect really useful cards without spending some real money. However, Valve has managed to deal with this issue, adding some balance for the users, who don’t want to donate.
Artifact is a well-made representative of classic card game genre, which maybe does not bring something totally new to the players but adds original stylistics to all the well-known aspects. You can download Artifact from the catalog and try your luck at this satisfactory game.
Artifact is a good choice for all the fans of card games. It is simple to start and it’s very interesting to improve in this game.
Pros : Enjoyable graphics;
High replay value.
Cons : Ingame transactions are not so friendly;
It takes a lot to gather a strong deck.
Replay Value 5
Average : 4.9
