Professional Review

Vex perfectly combines the classic arcade gaming experience with a modern take on puzzle gaming. Although the game looks simple and easy to play, it is far from it with challenging levels and dangerous enemies around every corner.

Graphics — 4.5/5

Based on classic retro games, Vex doesn't offer spectacular graphics, but what it does offer is graphics that are clean and easy on the eyes. Its simplistic designs are featured throughout the game in the form of regular shapes, minimalistic 3D physics, and basic movement. Even though Vex isn't the most visually appealing game, it has more than enough to keep you interested. But taking all this for granted will leave you struggling to get past the levels.

Gameplay — 4/5

In Vex, you play as a cube that has to maneuver through treacherous worlds filled with secret traps, hardcore enemies, and molten lava ready to end your journey. The game has 4 different worlds for you to explore including Pura, Glacium, Ignis, and Quanta. There are 11 levels in each world and once completed perfectly, a 5th world known as Iris opens up. Pura is a normal level with land, sea, flora, and fauna environments to explore. Glacium is the ice world where snowstorms and falling ice are ever present. Ignis is the fire level where erupting volcanoes and lava traps will heat up your gaming experience.

Lastly, Quanta is a world where physics is not the name and there are dark forces at play. Through the game, you will face 4 different kinds of enemies including sentry, patroller, blast, and glide. You too have special powers to use to help you get through the levels. You can increase in size, decrease in size, become faster, slow time down, and make you deadly to the enemies around you. You have to complete a number of puzzles to get through the levels and win.

Controls — 4.5/5

Being a PC game, Vex can be played using the device's keyboard and mouse or alternatively, with the help of a compatible controller. The controls are easy to use and require a minimum amount of time to master. To move the cube in any direction, you can either use the direction keys, dedicated keys, or the D-Pad (on the controller). To engage the special powers, you can customize the buttons on your keyboard or controller to your liking.

Replay Value — 4/5

Vex is a game that requires a lot more than just extreme battling skills. The game encourages you to use your brain to get around problems and find solutions to the rather challenging puzzles. It is extremely addictive but requires some getting used to. Although every gamer will not choose Vex as their first option, once played, it does tend to draw you back for more and pushes you to complete the levels instead of giving up.

Conclusion

Given everything, Vex includes, it is a game, not for the hardcore, action seeking players, but rather for the players who enjoy using their minds to work out solutions for puzzles and other challenging situations. Vex is a complex game built around a deceivingly simplistic design. So, if you're up for challenging yourself and trying till you succeed, give Vex a chance to impress you with its tricky and engaging gameplay.

Conclusion

For all those gamers looking for challenging games that involve puzzles and tricky levels, Vex stands out for more than a few reasons.
