Have you ever been suspecting your neighbors to be creepy and secretive? Surely you did. What do they hide behind closed doors? And what mysteries are happening in their houses? To know more about the Neighbor’s life, join the horror game Hello Neighbor. It is perfect for those who are curious about their neighbor’s whereabouts and already have a good lead in following up. It is a stealth game with the unique concept of finding your way to your neighbor’s basement and uncovering all the deep dark secrets hidden.
Graphics — 5/5
Hello Neighbor requires GT-770 or higher for its rather high-quality video resolution. The game is visually fun and enjoyable: strenuous sound effects and typical horror elements curiously resonate with colorful graphics. Many locations are well-made, some interiors please the eye.
The house consists of six floors and is poorly lit. There are two ways to improve visibility: to find a flashlight and not to spoil the graphics or reduce graphics with minimizing shadows so that it becomes lighter.
Gameplay — 5/5
Hello Neighbor is not only creepy but super intelligent too, that's why the gameplay is so exciting. The game has an in-built self-learning AI which learns the player’s moves and prevents him from getting closer to the goals. The AI of your antagonist is always checking your paths and trying to slow you down or set devious traps for you.
The game consists of three acts. The first act takes place in the modest cottage which is tricky and dangerous with the neighbor being inside. Not to get caught you should use the best of your tactics. The rest of the two acts just stand-out from the stealth mode perspective. The playing arena in these acts is getting wider and comes as the challenge for you to crack the most mind-boggling puzzles. With some fast thinking and some unlikely combination of items and actions, you will surely get ahead in this game of pulling out the neighbor’s deep dark secrets.
The murky, dark environment and sinister level experiences at the oddest places in this mystery-filled house will keep you on the edge of your seat.
To get your way around the game, be prepared to come across some really unpredictable object behavior and make peace with the strange make of the game itself. You can spend hours playing it and can remain in awe of the intricacies twined into the puzzles and every turn of this notoriously scary game.
Controls — 4/5
Adventure quest Hello Neighbor can drive a player crazy because at the very beginning it is difficult to understand what exactly had to be done to move forward on the plot. First of all, we should mention, that in your inventory you can keep no more than four things, that is, if you find the fifth item, then it will replace the previous one.
To take things in hand, press the "E" key. Then you can hold down the right mouse button, select the target and throw the previously raised object into it. The longer you hold this button, the stronger your throw will be.
Throwing things is necessary not only for breaking fragile surfaces. So you can also fight off from your neighbor. Therefore, we advise you to always carry with you a large and unnecessary object, for example, a bowling ball.
In the beginning, you will have to inspect all the premises in the neighbor's house. Use the boxes to climb onto the roof and enter the second floor.
Be attentive to the keys and magnets. You will also require them during the game.
Replay Value — 4.5/5
The game consists of three acts, telling about three points from the life of the main character: two from childhood and one from adult life. The first acts are very simple and serve as a warm-up before the third, in which the neighbor's house expands to incredible sizes, the puzzles become very complicated, and three mini-games appear, after which they give out useful abilities.
For a person outside the community, the game will seem terrible, broken and utterly incomprehensible, and he can hardly pass it. But for those who have long followed its development through someone's streams on Twitch or the themes on Reddit, Hello Neighbor is a colorful, exciting game with tons of opportunities and secrets.
Hello Neighbor is a surreal embodiment of a stealth horror. It is difficult to call successful by itself. The solution of puzzles without obvious logical connections will please only a rare intellectual subculture representer. It is the game for an amateur which likes to study each pixel level and to solve riddles inaccessible to the human mind and to enjoy some unexpected program code tricks.
