Professional Review

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is an action-adventure game which tells the story of Sengoku-period shinobi known as Wolf who looks for his kidnapped patron named Kuro in order to regain his honor. This game was developed by Japanese studio FromSoftware, known for Dark Souls series and Bloodborne. Despite the fact that some games from this team were exclusives only (Demon’s Souls for PS3, Bloodborne for PS4), you can download Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Graphics – 5/5

The most part of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice reviews tell us about not so impressive graphics. But we just can’t concur on this point. Maybe there are projects that look a bit better, but Sekiro has a feature that no one else can offer. The game design is amazing: each level is knitted with fibers of picturesque overlooks of medieval Japan, with its snowy virgin mountains, blossom sakura, and unique eastern architecture. Everything looks very colorful and attentively.

Gameplay – 5/5

As every action game, Sekiro is full of intense battles with casual enemies and bosses. Game developers tried to show us each unique technique of medieval Japanese ninjas, like shuriken throwing, silent kills and acrobatics. Also, the huge part of the game process is about katana dueling and the correct minding of each battle.

The brilliance of FromSoftware games lies inside its rules. And Sekiro is not an exception. Actually, there is a small tip in the name of this game which can give you a short impression on what exactly you are going to do in the next few hours. And the correct answer is…to DIE. Not even twice, but as many times as your skills need to grow.

Just like in every Hidetaka Miyazaki game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice gameplay is all about the challenge. There are no difficulty levels, but you have to understand the in-game mechanics if you want to progress. As a shinobi, you have to build your strategy with the help of deadliest weapons, find weak spots in each enemy’s combat style and use the advantages of the surrounding environment.

Controls – 4.5/5

We would rate 5/5 in this category if Sekiro was released only for console platforms, on which the main controller is gamepad. But in case of the better part of PC users, the main controllers are mouse and keyboard, which are just not good enough for this genre. Don’t get us wrong, there are people who play this game on a keyboard, and they do it well, but this is most likely an exception, so if you don’t want to manage wonky controls and if you are a PC user, be sure to get yourself a PC gamepad.

Replay Value – 5/5

We can bet that you won’t find all the friendly characters and hidden places in your first Sekiro walkthrough. It doesn’t mean that you are a casual player who is not attentive to details. Even experienced Souls/Borne players still can’t find all the secrets hidden in the new FromSoftware game. Who knows, maybe once you’ll become the first one to find a hidden treasure, a secret enemy or a new easy way to beat down a tough boss.

New FromSoftware game is definitely a masterpiece, especially if you love challenging battles in Sengoku style. There are lots of positive things we could mention about this game, but we won’t because you have to try them yourself. You can download Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice from the catalog and test your shinobi skills right now.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a must-have for all the fans of FromSoftware games and Japanese-themed action games. Katana-wielding has never been so fun.
