Overcooked is a fun and cute co-operation game where you and your friends manage the team of cooks. You need to be fast and deft to serve all clients, keep the kitchen not burned out, and learn how to cook in most incredible places!
Graphics — 5/5
The graphics are pretty good and reminds that of many other casual restaurant games. Colorful styling and charming characters reduce the tension a little bit – and there will be tension and rush as you have a limited amount of time to complete a level.
Each location is well-developed, having its own unique styling. Whether you cook on the pirate ship or in space, multiple small details immerse you into the game’s atmosphere.
Gameplay — 4.5/5
So, there is a team of cooks, and their tasks seem to be quite simple: prepare meals by chopping vegetables, cooking meat, and washing dishes. But as you play with your friends, you should develop tactics in order to be more successful. On each level, you can earn up to 3 stars, and the third one can be really hard to gain.
Be careful and fast in order not to set your kitchen on fire. For example, if you don’t have any clean bowls and the soup is ready, it starts to burn. Thank goodness, there’s always a firefighter to the rescue.
Moreover, the seemingly simple process of cooking is complicated by various environments in which you’re prompted to cook. You may find yourself cooking on driving tracks, an iceberg, and even somewhere in space!
There is a solo mode when you play for two cooks swapping between them as they complete automated tasks you've set for them. This may be a nice experience if you like the game or if you’re willing to master your skills. At the same time, playing solo can be tedious and boring.
Controls — 5/5
While missions in this game can be pretty hard to complete, the pick-up-and-play controls are pretty easy and intuitive. If you’re playing on the PC, you use a mouse, keyboard arrow buttons, a spacebar, ‘ctrl’ button, and a couple of others. You also can use a joystick.
Overcooked is a great game not only for friends but also for families, and its simple controls make it possible to play with children, too.
Replay Value — 4.5/5
As I mentioned before, you get stars for completing levels, and to unlock new ones, you need a certain amount of these stars. So, whether you want to replay that particular level or not, you actually don’t have much of choice – in case you want to play in other locations.
Also, as Overcooked is a co-op game which is pure fun to play with friends, you may want to replay it in different companies. One more option – you and your closest friends playing the game over and over to master your communication and tactics skills.
It’s a genuine culinary quest where you have to not only cook meals and serve dishes – but also learn to coordinate with your fellow players in order to succeed.
Overcooked will probably appeal not only for fans of the genre but also for everyone who is looking for a dynamic game to play with friends or family. Adorable characters, challenging missions, and various locations along with co-operation experience make this game pure fun!
