Dead By Daylight: Can You Survive?

6,484

Dead By Daylight is a multiplayer horror game that features asymmetrical PVP gameplay. One player assumes the role of a killer when other four players are survivors who need to escape his terrifying realm.

Disclaimer: One may find the dark grim atmosphere and the very concept of the game to be quite disturbing. Dead By Daylight is a slasher game that features blood and gore, so it’s not a good choice for sensitive people.

Graphics — 5/5

Dead By Daylight is a game with 3D graphics which are great and rather detailed. It creates this grim atmosphere that you probably want to see in a horror game like that.

The environment is well-developed and elaborate: wrecked buildings, trees, and various other objects diminish your ability to see what’s going on, yet that helps you to hide from the killer. There are even ravens that enhance the feeling of gloom and dread.

Gameplay — 4/5

The main goal of the survivors is to evade the killer and leave his realm. To do that, they have to fix several generators which open the doors to the outside. If you’re the last survivor alive, you can also use a hidden hatch that appears randomly.

As a survivor, you have some advantages such as the ability to build obstacles, hide in tall grass, or feel the killer coming closer to you. The killer also has unique abilities that are a great help at stalking and finding preys. Moreover, each player gets their own Bloodweb so that they can purchase various nodes. Once a Bloodweb is filled, you gain a level.

The problem is, due to such earnable perk system newbies may find themselves playing against someone who has these nodes and, therefore, is much stronger than they are. Also, you get an unreasonably small amount of Bloodpoints for finishing the match quickly, so many players tend to delay the match attempting to farm more points.

The game features a Kill Your Friends mode that lets you play with friends. However, you can’t earn Bloodpoints or use your Bloodweb when playing this mode. That’s why the Kill Your Friends mode isn’t that popular, and players tend to lobby-jump trying to get into a game with their friends.

Controls — 4.5/5

Four survivors play in third-person view which allows them to look around, survey the environment, and use it to escape the killer, while the killer himself stalks them in first-person. When playing on the PC, you control your character with a keyboard and a mouse; there is nothing special.

All survivors have their own unique strengths as well as the killer. For instance, the survivors can interact with some objects, ask another player to come with them, and so on. The killer can use his special ability, break an obstacle or catch the survivor.

Replay Value — 4.5/5

For every match, the map is randomly generated, so even experienced players can’t benefit from having learned it. While some people prefer to play the same map over and over, others may find this feature to be quite challenging.

Also, you get so-called Bloodpoints for achievements in the game, and that can motivate you to replay it. Finally, it can be passion and desire to win that keep you playing Dead By Daylight over and over again.

Conclusion

Overall, Dead By Daylight is a well-made horror game with grim atmosphere, interesting characters, and great sound effects. It only lacks a storyline: you don’t know for sure why there is a killer, why the survivors are trapped in his realm, and why the generators were broken in the first place.

Still, Dead By Daylight is quite a challenging game for all of you out there who are ready to hit a nerve!

Conclusion

A great game for everyone who loves horror movies and doesn’t get scary by in-game killers.

Pros : The game is genuinely scary
8 killers and 10 survivors with their unique abilities and strengths
Randomly generated maps
The sound effects and background music immerse you in the game’s atmosphere, reminding you of classic horror movies

Cons : Not much of a storyline
The visuals can be monotonous
The perk system is flawed
The matchmaking system also isn’t perfect: getting a match started takes from 5 to 40 minutes
Players can quit the match at any time without being penalized which may lead to lags and freezes
